Putin signed a law banning testing of holy books for extremism

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the recognition of texts of sacred scriptures as extremist materials. The document is published on the official portal of legal information.

Earlier, the document was supported by the State Duma of the Russian Federation. According to the new law, the texts, quotations and content of the Bible, Koran, Tanakh and Kanjur cannot be recognized as extremist. The explanatory note to the bill says that Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism are an integral part of the historical heritage of the peoples of Russia, so the ban on recognizing sacred scriptures as extremist will ensure equal respect for the world's traditional religions.

Recall that Vladimir Putin submitted this bill to the State Duma in fact after the decision of the court of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, which recognized the book “Prayer (dua) to God: its purpose and place in Islam”, containing quotes from the Koran, as extremist. The story gained publicity after the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, called the judge of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk city court Natalya Perchenko and the prosecutor, on whose suit the decision was made, Tatyana Bilobrovets, "national traitors and shaitans", and also asked them to be held accountable. The court later reversed this decision.
