The court arrested a participant in the “national gathering” in support of Navalny in 2013

The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow arrested activist Sergei Akhmetov, accused of resisting a police officer at a gathering in support of politician Alexei Navalny in 2013, Mediazonareports .

The court ordered the arrest of the activist until December 22, 2015. This preventive measure was chosen due to the fact that, according to the prosecution, Akhmetov may escape, threaten witnesses, or continue criminal activities.

“I found out that I was wanted at the border when I was traveling home from vacation to St. Petersburg. Then it turned out that I participated in some illegal actions in Moscow. For me this is absurd,” Akhmetov said in court.

Law enforcement officers detained Sergei Akhmetov last week. He is accused of “using violence against a police officer” at a mass rally in July 2013. Then the court found Alexei Navalny and Pyotr Ofitserov guilty of organizing the embezzlement of Kirovles property worth 16 million rubles. Many considered the verdict to be politically motivated and took to the streets to protest. As stated in the indictment, Akhmetov did not allow the police to detain the woman during the rally, “grabbed the law enforcement officer by the shoulder strap and thereby hurt his hand.”

Sergei Akhmetov does not admit guilt and states that he has not been to Moscow for four years.
