A Russian marine has died in Syria. As stated in the General Staff, the military died during a rescue operation at the crash site of the Russian Su-24.
According to Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoy, a Russian contract soldier died after a Russian Mi-8 helicopter was shot down from the ground. Previously, the loss of the helicopter was known only on the basis of unofficial information. It was reported that a helicopter flying in the area of the Su-24 crash was shot down from the ground by formations fighting against the government forces of Bashar al-Assad. The Russian side claims that he was shot down by "bandit formations".
The General Staff said that the composition of the search and rescue group and the crew of the helicopter shot down in Syria were evacuated. Two helicopters participated in the special operation; the second returned safely to base.
