On November 24, the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court upheld the sentence imposed on Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko, according to which they received 20 and 10 years in prison, respectively. Mediazona reports this.
The court dismissed the appeal against the verdict. At the meeting, only the operative part of the board's decision was read.
Oleg Sentsov and Alexander Kolchenko, who are in pre-trial detention center No. 4 in Rostov-on-Don, participated in the meeting via video link, which was constantly interrupted.
Lawyers and the accused themselves, Sentsov and Kolchenko, asked them to acquit or cancel the court decision and send it for review. They noted that the court did not take into account the evidence of their innocence and based the verdict on the testimony of Afanasyev, who in court reported the slander of Kolchenko and Sentsov.
Kolchenko’s defender Svetlana Sidorkina noted that Kolchenko admits his participation in setting the window on fire, but did it as a symbolic gesture in protest against the entry of Russian soldiers into Crimea.
Lawyer Dinze recalled that the court limited the defense’s right to provide evidence that the defendants are not related to the Right Sector; moreover, it threatened the lawyers with criminal prosecution for extremism.
Alexander Kolchenko refused to speak: “I already said everything in the court of first instance.”
“I have nothing to tell you, your TV show is very boring,” Oleg Sentsov agreed with him.
The judge reprimanded him for communicating with the court without getting up from his seat. “When I watch TV, I usually don’t get up, your honor,” Sentsov replied.
