According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta , the bronze monument of the work of sculptor Nikolai Filatov depicts the scientist sitting in a chair with a cigarette in his hand, at the feet - a pile of books.
After the arrest and exile, Bakhtin was forbidden to live in large cities. In 1949-1969, the scientist lived in Saransk, worked at the Department of Russian and Foreign Literature The Historical and Philology Faculty of Mordovian State University (until 1957-the Mordovian State Pedagogical Institute).
In Saransk, Bakhtin prepared for the publication of books that brought him world fame: “Problems of Dostoevsky’s poetics” (1963), “The work of Francois Rabelais and the folk culture of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance” (1965).
The installation of the monument is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Bakhtin's birthday. On the days of the anniversary, the Center of Bakhtin was opened at the Mordovian State University, VI Bakhta readings with the participation of scientists from eleven countries are held.
