Putin imposed sanctions against Turkey
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree imposing sanctions against Turkey. In particular, he instructed to suspend the visa-free regime with Turkey from 2016 and ordered to limit the import of Turkish goods - their list will be determined by the Russian government.
Tour operators are prohibited from selling trips to Turkey. Charter flights from Russia to Turkey should be cancelled. The decree does not say anything about a ban on regular flights.
The sanctions also provide for a ban on employers from hiring Turkish citizens and a ban on activities in Russia of organizations under the jurisdiction of Turkey - the list of activities will be determined by the Russian government.
Putin also ordered to strengthen control over the activities of Turkish road carriers in Russia, as well as to strengthen security measures in the waters of Russian seaports in the Azov-Black Sea basin.
This decree comes into force from the day of its official publication and is valid until the abolition of the special economic and other measures established by it.
- The crisis in relations between Russia and Turkey began in connection with the crash of a Russian Su-24 bomber shot down by a Turkish fighter on November 24. Türkiye claims that he invaded its airspace. Russia insists that the plane was exclusively over Syrian territory - moreover, according to the Russian military command, it was the Turkish fighter that violated the border during the attack.
