The Prosecutor General’s Office recognized the foreign NCO Open Society and the Assistance Fund in Russia. As the official representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office Marina Gridneva told Interfax, “the decision was made in connection with the appeal of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly to the General Prosecutor, Foreign Minister and the Minister of Justice to verify organizations included in the so-called“ patriotic stoplist ”.

According to Gridneva, "it was established that the Acting Society Foundations Fund and the Institute Open Society of Assistance Foundation poses a threat to the basics of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation and the security of the state."

Gridneva added that the decision was sent to the Ministry of Justice to include these organizations in the list of foreign and international non -governmental organizations, whose activities are recognized as undesirable in Russia.

On May 23, Vladimir Putin signed the law on "undesirable" foreign organizations . NPOs, recognized as "undesirable", cannot transfer money to Russia, implement programs, and also open their representative offices here. It is also prohibited to disseminate information materials from such organizations.

For participation in the activities of the "undesirable" NGOs, citizens are threatened with fines, and for the leadership of such organizations, as well as when re -involved for participation in their work, up to 6 years of the colony under article 284.1 of the Criminal Code. Foreigners participating in the activities of "undesirable" NPOs are prohibited to Russia.

On July 7, the Council of People's Commissarspublished the so-called "patriotic stoplist." In the first place is the Open Society Institute (Soros Foundation), in second place is the National Fund of Democracy, in the third - the International Republican Institute. In addition, the National Democratic Institute for International Issues, the Makanturov Foundation, Freedom House, Charles Stuart Mott, the Education Fund for Democracy, the Eastern European Democratic Center, the Ukrainian World Coordinating Council, the Crimean Field Mission of Human Rights, were included in the stop list.

SF demanded from the Prosecutor General, Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Justice to check these NPOs for compliance with Russian legislation. On July 28, the Prosecutor General’s Office sent a conclusion to the Ministry of Justice , according to which the American NGO “National Fund in Support for Democracy” was the first to be included in the list of “undesirable”.
