Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev promised to radically solve the problem of Crimea's energy supply in the near future, TASS reported on Tuesday, December 1.

“We will solve the light problem that exists in Crimea as soon as possible. Moreover, it will be resolved in such a way that it will not be returned to again,” Medvedev said.

He added that the region will also be provided with preschool institutions. “We will solve the problem of providing preschool institutions in Crimea in the same way as we have solved throughout the country,” the prime minister promised in response to a request from a resident of Crimea. The official clarified that he would give a special instruction to federal structures and the leader of the republic.

On the night of November 22, Kyiv stopped supplying electricity to Crimea due to the explosion of a power line in the Kherson region. A state of emergency was declared on the peninsula. The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, suggested that the emergency situation could last until December 22, when it is planned to put into operation the first stage of the energy bridge from the Russian mainland across the Kerch Strait.

On November 24, the head of Crimea dismissed the Minister of Fuel and Energy Sergei Egorov due to his unsatisfactory work in the emergency situation and appointed Svetlana Borodulina, who before the new appointment was Aksenov’s adviser on energy issues, as acting minister. On November 28, Borodulina stated that the situation in the Crimean power industry has been normalized, balances have been leveled and schedules are being maintained.

“I think that the situation today has been normalized. We learned how to work in emergencies, dispatch service, and distribution zones. If in the first days the people working in these structures expressed their desires, now we bring the situation to their attention and tell them what is available, so that based on this, they can work with their area as competently as possible,” the official explained.
