In Kurgan, an ambulance paramedic declared a living pensioner dead

A paramedic from the Kurgan ambulance team determined by smell that the 85-year-old stroke patient was dead and refused to examine her, reported on Monday. Meridian

The pensioner's relatives said that they could not contact her for several days. On November 27, they opened her apartment, an elderly woman was sitting leaning against the radiator “in an unnatural position” - according to them, her leg was twisted, her head was down. The lights were on in the room, the TV was playing loudly, the phone had been picked up and was lying on the table. Relatives called an ambulance.

“When the paramedic arrived, she said from the doorway: “Open the windows. It smells like a corpse in here." The doctor didn’t even touch the granny’s pulse. She determined by the smell that the grandmother was dead,” the pensioner’s neighbor Valentina Smolyakova told Meridian. After the doctors left, a funeral director came to the pensioner’s apartment, then a hearse from the municipal funeral home arrived, followed by the police. Seeing that the elderly woman moved her hand, he called an ambulance again. The same paramedic who recently confirmed the death of the patient arrived at the apartment.

“The paramedic measured my grandmother’s sugar, because she has diabetes, it turned out to be elevated, and then she measured her blood pressure. Then we spread a blanket on the floor and put grandma on it. And she wheezed and opened her eyes! She was immediately taken to the hospital,” explained Smolyakova. A pensioner was diagnosed with acute cerebrovascular accident (ischemic stroke). Relatives filed a complaint against the paramedic with the prosecutor's office. Svetlana Gaptar, Deputy Chief Emergency Physician of the State Budgetary Institution Kurgan Emergency Hospital, explained that “certain violations on the part of the paramedic during the procedure for ascertaining biological death do occur.” The medical institution is conducting an internal audit.
