Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to take action in response to Russia imposing sanctions against Ankara over the downing of a Russian Su-24 bomber, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday .

Erdogan called Moscow’s reaction to the Su-24 incident “disproportionate.” “If Russia continues such actions, we will be forced to take retaliatory measures,” Erdogan said.

In his speech at a university in Doha, Qatar, Erdogan also said that no one has the right to “defame” Turkey by accusing it of buying oil from Islamic State terrorists (an organization banned in Russia).

The Turkish President noted that he does not want further deterioration of relations with Russia. He reiterated that he would resign if allegations that Turkey was buying oil from IS terrorists were proven.

On Wednesday, December 2, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said at a briefing in Moscow that Erdogan and members of his family are personally involved in the illegal production and transportation of Syrian and Iraqi oil to Turkey, which they receive from IS militants.
