Peter Jackson stood up for a Turkish doctor who compared Erdogan with Gollum

Oscar -winning creator of the film -trilogy "Lord of the Rings" Peter Jackson and screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philip Boyers defended the Turkish doctor Bilgin Chiffchi, who threatens up to two years in prison for comparing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with the character of John Ronald Ruela Tolkin and films Gollum (Laughing).

The doctor is accused of insulting the head of state after he published personnel from the "Lord of the Rings" with the image of Gollum on his Twitter and posted the photographs of Erdogan in the same position.

As stated in Jackson’s statement, Walsh and Boyers, if only in the images, then they are ready to say that none of them are Gollum. “All these are the images of the character of a smoagol,” the authors of the statement that Deadline.com quotes. "Smagol is a cheerful, dear character. Smagol does not lie, does not betray and does not try to manipulate others. He is not bad, not two -faced, not evil - all these features belong to Gollum, who cannot be confused with a laughter," the statement said.

Earlier, the court of the Turkish city Aydin decided to conduct an examination of the image of Gollum after it turned out that none of the judges saw Jackson's films.

Bilgin’s defense Chifchi claims that Gollum is not a negative character and the doctor was not going to insult the president.

The accusations of insulting the head of state against Chifchi were put forward in October 2015 immediately after he published on Twitter a selection of pictures of Erdogan and Gollum. Now the doctor, dismissed from work at the National Institute of Public Health, faces up to two years in prison.
