The short list of documentaries claiming Oscar included a picture of the Maidan

The American film academia published a short list of 15 documentaries that will apply for an Oscar. As follows from the list , one of the candidates for obtaining a prestigious award was the painting “Winter on the fire: the struggle of Ukraine for freedom” of the Russian director Evgeny Athenievsky about the events on the Maidan of Nezalevniy in Kiev in the winter of 2013-2014.

The list also included: the film "Amy" directed by Adif Kapadia about singer Amy Winehaus, tape Michael Moore about US foreign policy "Where else to invade?", The film about the centology of Alex Pertini, the film by Davis Guggenheim about the Pakistani Human Rights Rights Awards, Laureata of the Nobel Prize of the World Malale Yusufzai and the documentary of Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville about the television battles between Mount Vidal and William Frank Buckley - the youngest "Best Enemies".

Two more films about celebrities are mentioned in the list - “Listen to me, Marlon” Stephen Riley about actor Marlon Brando and “What happened, Miss Simon?” Director of Lisa Garbus about singer Nina Simon, as well as the film-expert film Lori Anderson "The Heart of the Dog," reports Intermedia .

The official premiere of the film "Winter in the Fire" of joint production of the United States, Great Britain and Ukraine took place on October 9, 2015 on the Netflix platform. Prior to this, official poster and trailer for the film were presented on the Internet.

The picture includes interviews with the protesters on the Maidan, notes from the scene. The film is based on shootings made by 28 amateur operators. The film was presented in the out-of-competition program of the 72nd Venice Film Festival, as well as in the competitive program of the 40th film festival in Toronto.

The 15 best documentaries included in the short list were selected from 124 paintings presented in the category. The five finalists will be announced on January 14, 2016, and the winner of the award will become known on February 28.
