They want to supplement the Criminal Code with an article on Russian discrediting

State Duma deputy Oleg Mikheev (“Fair Russia”) proposes to introduce criminal liability for the distribution of knowingly false and denigrating information. It is supposed to punish these crimes with a fine of up to 2 million rubles.

“The fight against terrorism and the operation to destroy the forces of extremists in Syria are presenting new requirements for our legislative framework. Russia was not even between two, but between the three lights - the terrorists that need to fight, the West that hesitates, whether to enter the coalition with us, and Turkey, which has turned from an ally into a subject of confrontation, ” the Russian newspaper quotes Mikheev.

According to the deputy, “the undermining of trust in Russia, that is, discrediting it both within the country and the international arena is objectively playing the hand of extremists”, so it is necessary to supplement the Criminal Code with an article on the discrediting of Russia.

The amendments proposed by Mikheev, “discrediting” means the spread of knowingly false, inaccurate or distorted information on the political, economic, social, military or international situation of Russia, the legal status of citizens in Russia.

The crimes stipulated by the new article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation are punishable by a fine of 500 thousand rubles or by obligatory work for up to 160 hours (for individuals), when committing a crime publicly using the media - a fine of 1 million rubles or by obligatory work for up to 240 hours, when committing a crime using an official position - a fine of 2 million rubles or obligatory work for up to 320 hours and a prohibition by the ban on a period To occupy certain positions for three years.

Referring to the fact that such an article is in the Criminal Code of Belarus, Mikheev said: “I believe that in the framework of the creation of the Eurasian Union, the harmonization of the legislation of both of our countries is a logical course.”
