At the Artdokfest festival in Moscow, the film was displayed by Valentin Baryshnikov and Olga Loginova "Peter Vile. Cinema about me." This documentary is dedicated to the publicist and essay to Peter Weil, a long -term employee, and in the last years of his life - the chief editor of the Russian Radio Liberty service. Peter Weil was the most charming person of his era. Despite the fact that the plush and soft -bodied was not at all. In his manner to smile, speak, read poetry (and how he loved to read them - everyone knows who was lucky with him to contact in this life), affectionate firmness was felt. And rounded clarity - in everything that he did. We had a disagreement-fortunately, the only one-due to what I wrote in an article about him: Vail's prose is light, as if optional. I had in mind unnecessary. He read “optional” - as irresponsible. And harshly pointed out: I am a mandatory person.
For Vail, everything was alive and related to him personally
The film says about the German punctuality of Peter, and about real Russian grains. As it is said about the craving for the change of places, about the migratory nature of life. It was difficult to not love him and it is not easy to cause his hostility (except to be late for dinner; here he was adamant, the guest is obliged to observe punctuality, a good owner prepares a minute per minute). And it’s good that the film has no dull nostalgia, gloomy importance. Peter's friends and colleagues talk about him as living. Joyfully, with a smile, gratefully. He seems to have come out and will return now. And here we are still preparing a surprise, let's say it is good about it. He will then look, smiles too.
It is impossible to talk about Vaile differently. For him, everything was alive and related to him personally. Or did not exist at all. If verses, then “about me”. If travel, then missed through your own personality. If friendship, as with Brodsky, is all -pervasive. The film tells about this to the living Vile. More precisely, he does not tell - he presents.
