The arrest of a student of Karaulova was extended until the end of March

The Lefortovo Court of Moscow extended until March 27 the arrest of a student of Moscow State University Alexandra Ivanova (Barbara Karaulova), accused of trying to join the Islamic State, Interfax reports . The court granted the application of the investigation, asking to leave her in custody for three months and five days.

The FSB investigator explained the need to leave the student in custody to "the inability to finish all the planned investigative actions," in particular, "to conduct an inpatient complex psychological and psychiatric examination appointed by Ivanova."

"The psychological and psychiatric examination at the Serbian center was also appointed at the defense of the defense," lawyer Sergei Badamshin told the court, in turn. He asked the court to change the measure of restraint for house arrest.

On May 27, a 19-year-old warehouse Karaulova left home to join IS in Syria . As it turned out, she was carried away by the ideas of radical Islam, but kept her beliefs secret from her parents. Eyewitnesses claimed that after leaving the house, she changed into a hijab.

On May 28, it became known that Karaulov is in Turkey. On June 4, she was detained as part of a group of 11 Russians in the city of Kilis, the capital of the same name in southern Turkey, near the border with Syria. On June 11, employees of the National Migration Agency of Turkey and Interpol delivered Karaulov to Moscow.

The Investigative Committee conducted a preliminary investigation on the facts of the student’s possible participation in the activities of the extremist community and its recruitment. As a result of the audit, he refused to initiate the case against Karaulova at the end of July. After that, the student changed her name and surname, becoming Alexandra Ivanova. According to Badamshin, she underwent drug treatment at the Scientific Center for Mental Health due to depression.

Meanwhile, on October 23, the FSB opened a case against the student under Part 1 of Article 30 - Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization). On October 27, Karaulova was detained, and the next day the Lefortovo District Court arrested her until December 23 . Later she was an official charge.

On November 10, the Moscow City Court left the decision to arrest a student in force. At the same time, the FSB investigator E. Zotchik stated at the hearing that Karaulova fully pleaded guilty. Karaulova announced the abandonment of two lawyers provided by the FSB , - Alexander Noskov and Alexander Karabanov. She entrusted her interests exclusively to Badamshin and Haji Aliyev to represent her interests during the investigation.

On November 18, the defense of Karaulova appealed to the Prosecutor General with a request for a transfer of the case for investigation from the FSB to the TFR . “We believe that the FSB is not impartial and will not be able to establish the truth in the case,” Badamshin said. “Our suspicions are associated with a systematic violation by the investigation of the rights of the accused to defend.” The lawyer noted that he and Aliyev were not allowed to be investigative actions with the arrested and did not introduce decisions in the case.
