The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation promised to exclude " from the register of "foreign agents the movement "For Human Rights ". Officials decided to do this after an unscheduled inspection of the organization.
The department added that the decision to remove the movement from the register will be made and issued in the form of an order within the time period established by law - no later than December 31, 2015.
- The Human Rights Movement was declared a "foreign agent" in December 2014. The organization claimed that such a status was assigned to it illegally.
- The Law on Foreign Agents was adopted in 2012. It requires NGOs that engage in political activities and receive foreign funding to register with the Ministry of Justice as agents, while the department has the right to force the listing of organizations. If the organization itself does not submit an application for inclusion in the register, a fine is imposed on it.
- The register of "foreign agents" includes 108 organizations.
