“A few hours before my life, without any exaggeration, fell apart in two halves, I wrote a post on Facebook,” says 35-year-old Marina, editor of the magazine about culture. - It was not a post of despair or a request for help. It was an ordinary, prosperous, dear post about our dog. Funny, collecting a lot of likes. Yes, it turns out I wrote it in the late evening, in a good mood. And in the morning my husband committed suicide. ”
Prior to this - a decade of happy family life with a gifted and unlike other person. And three years of depression and growing psychological problems with which Marina and her husband then tried to cope on their own, then searched and did not find the necessary specialists. But all these problems were, so to speak, an internal family business. From the side, their family was as it was, and remained - calm and happy. Normal.
“Probably, I could get help if, relatively speaking, I was looking for information on the Internet by the key word“ suicide, ”says Marina. - But before this knowledge, I went alone all circles of hell and all the search engines, read tons of information. And all this - retroactively, trying to cope with the pain ... You can’t return your husband anymore. ”
At the funeral of her husband, Marina seems to have cried alone. The remaining hundred people stood silently. “How is it possible,” one of his friends will abandon in the hearts, “to die, hanging all this hell on his wife and daughter.”
Now, a year after her husband’s suicide, Marina is trying to understand what happened: he was obviously talented, successful, lucky, able-bodied, charming, unconditionally smart and even more unconditionally loved. “The fact that he was loved, he certainly could not doubt, I vouch,” says Marina. And adds: - He was unusual. And it had the opposite side. "
Throughout their life together and in the last three years, which have been very difficult, Marina believed: "A special person has the right to his own, special life." But none of those with whom Marina’s husband met and spoke, who was “under surveillance”, to whom the family paid money, did not raise the question by the edge: either a specialized institution, or an unpredictable end. Nothing pointed out that Marina’s husband was on the verge of suicide. “We find ourselves in this story with our eyes closed,” says Marina. - Where does a healthy person who have never encountered such a disease come from how the case with his relative will end - in fact, a sick person, if he himself is not a doctor? And where is the responsibility of the structures that are digging in the human psyche? Why did no one ever put me before the choice: I want to live with a person who is losing the person, but alive - or to be at the line that I had? ”
Marina is still trying to determine the point of no return, the moment when her husband became a potential suicide, but she did not notice. “I was blind, indifferent, I did not want to face the truth, I was naive? Where is the post about the dog? Or maybe it's all about husband's illness? Was it really a difficult clinical depression? Or maybe schizophrenia? Manic-depressive psychosis? Of course, we made mistakes - he, me, doctors, but are there any guilty among us? Who is he? Is a seriously ill person to blame for his illness? Or am I trying to find such a solution so that it not only exist, but continues to remain myself? Could I decide it? I could know that you need to save life, not a person? Doctors who did not tell me, but tried as they could? But they are just doctors, not gods. ”
Trying to scroll through the tragic events of her life back, Marina claims: today in Russia there is no obvious path along which the relatives of the potential suicide could go without fright. Moreover, no algorithm - how to behave in a critical situation to loved ones - is not in the public domain.
Although, in fact, both the algorithm and people who are able to come to the rescue are available. But no one knows about them, which means finding them quickly and precisely when the situation is about to get out of control, it is impossible.
“Were there any special signs of an impending tragedy? - asks the lost husband Marina. And she answers: “No, just in the evening we talked well, which was so unexpected against the background of what was happening in the last months of a nightmare.” The nightmare Marina calls the state of her husband when he became inaccessible to loved ones, is closed, gloomy, limp and unemotional. Or vice versa - exploded for no reason, then again to immerse himself in depression. Marina and her husband managed to “talk well” that evening, she believes, against the background of antidepressants, which the new doctor wrote to her husband - and her husband felt much better. “All this gave him strength and assured me that evening that we have hope,” says Marina. “I wrote that funny post on Facebook and went to bed.”
In retroactively, Marina learns: no one actually prescribes antidepressants to a person who is on the verge of suicide. But it will be too late. “The responsibility that a professional faces, to whom a person sits with obvious clinical depression, is huge,” says the coach of the Institute of Existal-Analytic Psychology and Psychotherapy, psychologist Vita Kholmogorov. - After all, sometimes it even happens that a person has not yet formulated this thought - about voluntary care. But depression is burning it, the mechanism is launched ... And the fact that antidepressants are distributing now to us all is a monstrous crime. Do you understand how it works? Here is a person in depression. Suppose he once even thought about voluntary care. He does not even have the strength to get out of bed behind a glass of water. And you give him antidepressants. What's happening? He has the strength and determination to take this fatal step. ”

“The information that the suicide epidemic was overwhelmed by Russia is an exaggeration or even a myth,” said Professor Evgeny Lyubov, head of the suicidology department of the Moscow Research Institute of Psychiatry. “But, like any myth, he is believable.”
According to Lyubov, in 2015-for the first time since the mid-1990s-Russia left the top ten countries with the highest level of suicides in the world, moving to 14th place with an indicator in the first quarter-less than 19 lethal cases per 100 thousand people. The critical situation, according to the classification of WHOs, is believed to be when the country has more than 20 suicides per 100 thousand people. So, having escaped ahead, Russia did not go far from gloomy competitors.
According to Lyubov, "the tendency to reduce the level indicates socio-economic stabilization in the country." However, the professor does not have any confidence that the situation will continue. Colleague Lyubov, psychologist Vita Kholmogorov, believes that “the background of stability with the beginning and invention of 2015 will most likely be exhausted. More and more people are talking about the general depression and fears associated with the expectation of a gloomy future. ”
According to a psychotherapist, candidate of psychological sciences, a member of the International Association of Family Therapy of Anna Varga, the situation will only become worse: “Our society is now in a social regression. The general level of folk anxiety is high and high degree of reactivity: people are controlled from the outside, and not from the inside themselves. Not views and ideas control, but only the need to reduce momentary anxiety in any way. If possible, the majority is trying to avoid disturbing topics of their own free will, and not because "someone ordered from above."
Sociological studies only confirm the fears of psychologists and psychiatrists. Aleksey Firsov, Director of Communications of the All -Russian Central Executive Committee, says: “For a year and a half, the perception of life in Russian citizens was determined by two diverging vectors: one of them, an ideal order, was set by a political agenda and was sent up beyond the horizon; The second, material, was determined by the current economic situation and had a descending orientation. The first trend clearly dominated the entire last period, continues to dominate today, but the picture of the world gradually comes into balance. At the same time, the predominance of negative assessments does not yet refer to the current situation (Russians in the main part consider the state of affairs acceptable), but to expectations. Reducing optimism in relation to the future is an alarming symptom. This factor leads to compression of the consumption economy, abandoning long -term strategies, the effect of “freezing”. Which, in turn, strengthens phobias. ”
In such difficult situations, experts could come to the aid for a dead end. But, according to the research of the public opinion fund, 78% of Russians have never been at a reception with a psychologist. And 57% and in the future exclude the possibility of contacting a specialist.
Of course, none of the surveyed even in the most terrible dream imagines himself or his loved ones on the verge of suicide. But even if someone had seriously thought about where to run-if he had had a few options.
“Previously, our phone number was in all reference books, he was given 09. If a person got with a hospital with an attempt to suicide, he was given our number,” recalls the psychologist Marina Polivanova, who worked for 15 years as a specialist in the All -Union, and then the All -Russian “Phone of Provery” for people who were on the verge of suicide and their relatives.
The line was created in 1982 by a professor of psychiatry, the ancestor of Russian suicidology Aina Ambrumova. “Aina Grigoryevna,” says Polivanova, “achieved the impossible in Soviet times: the conversation did not listen, the number of the incoming call was not determined, the phone was free. Five to seven parallel lines worked. The phone rang constantly: you will not have time to pour yourself or go to the toilet, a bell rang. There were fewer calls at night. Basically, we were addressed by people who fell into difficult life circumstances, in a prehuscy condition. There were few people with chronic mental problems. ”
By 1993, the center began to bend, but there were still district Moscow psychological assistance departments, which closed by the end of the zero.
Over the past few years, the phone of the center of emergency medical and psychological assistance has changed several times. After the death of Ambrumova, the domestic policy of the center also changed: advertising stopped, journalists stopped letting it out there. That is, it is impossible to learn about the center from the media now. “Last summer, all the conversations of psychologists with calling began to record,” says Polivanova. - For me it was the last straw. And I left. "
Polivanova is sure: the availability of psychological and psychiatric care is the most important component of counteracting the suicide epidemic. But she does not know how to organize it in conditions of complete lack of contact between a professional psychiatric community and journalists.

“I was afraid to leave the house, was afraid to remove the telephone, afraid to close my eyes. It seemed to me that now everywhere and everywhere journalists would lie in wait for me. And that everyone in the city knows what happened to us. And he believes that I - and only I - is to blame for everything. I don’t know how we withstood it, ”says Olga, a 39-year-old housewife from a small city near Moscow.
A few years ago, her youngest daughter had just been born, and the eldest, second-gradow Vika, was treated for cancer in one of the federal cancer clinics. There was constantly a father next to her. Mom stayed with a newborn sister. The day after the tests of Vika after the first course of chemotherapy showed that the drugs are working, cancer is retreating, and the doctors confirmed the expediency of the second course of chemistry, the girl’s dad hanged himself in the utility room of the hospital. Someone from the medical staff told the tabloid to reporters. Introducing themselves to the employees of the charity fund, they were the first to talk with her husband Vikina, who came to the identification of her husband. The next day, the material about the tragedy came out in the first lane with a million circulation.
“Our city is small,” says the family’s friend, “there was a feeling that they could not hide anywhere. And here, on the one hand, the funeral, on the other - the girl is sick, loved her father, how to tell her? And everyone goes around and whisper, poke a finger. In general, shame. Now the passions have died, but then, of course, they only talked about them in the city. ”
“The most familiar way by which society will learn about suicides is the genre of“ corpse to breakfast ”, which our journalists so fell in love,” says Suycidologist Evgeny Lyubov. -And all the conversations about the causes of suicides and the methods of their prevention arise only in connection with the next story about the general who launched a bullet in his forehead due to the inhumanly arranged system of escorting cancer patients, or adolescents who, holding hands, jumped from the roof or something in this spirit. And this is a textbook of how you should not talk about such subtle matter. Suicide usually affects at least ten people: close, fellow practitioners, employees, random witnesses ... But it is the “epidemic” of resonant suicides that is a common stamp of media, pushing vulnerable personalities to the fatal line. This is not a statement of the problem, it is a direct hint how you can “solve” the hardships of life. According to Lyubov, the tragic story “with the wheels” does not give the possibility of a thorough conversation about the causes of suicides, their varieties and methods of prevention.
“In the confusion of the tragic report, no one has time to say a word about the resources of help, the faces of depression. Reporters grab confused relatives by the sleeve and require a detailed story - and this is categorically cannot be done. As it is impossible to pass an absentee sentence to the teacher, doctor, wife or mother with his father - and write in the first lane about the “epidemic” indicating addresses, names and surnames, the age of the victim, and the method of suicide. And the obligatory photo of the family window next to the photo of a poorly covered corpse, ”says love. All this, according to him, not only harms the family experiencing a loss and a professional community called to prevent such losses, but is also a official crime of journalists. However, how, when and what the journalists should talk about, the professional community has not yet been informed anyone.
Restrictions provided for in Article 15.1. Federal Law "On Information" and carefully controlled by Roskomnadzor and Rospotrebnadzor, implies a ban on the announcement of the causes of suicide and methods of its implementation. However, according to both journalists and psychiatrists, all this is rather related to the general grotesque orientation of the legislative activity of the State Duma of the Russian Federation in recent years, and does not affect the real situation.

Why in Russia at the state level the issue of mental health of the nation and the prevention of suicides has never been even formulated - rhetorical. But domestic suicidology is extremely young: it appeared only in the 1970s, when a special department was created at the Moscow Institute of Psychiatry under the leadership of the same Aina Ambrumova for the scientific development of suicide problem. Then the All-Union Scientific and Methodological Suicidological Center was opened, the task of which included the study of human behavior in various extreme situations. At this point, European suicidology existed more than a century and all the main problems, questions and answers to them have already been formulated, and the father of world sociology Emil Durkheim has already connected the social policy pursued by the state, the political and economic climate in society with the level of suicide.
Environmental knowledge about suicides are formulated in the WHO report in 2008. It says: “Depression, schizophrenia, dependence on alcohol and narcotic drugs, dementia, epilepsy are largely priority in the causes of suicide.”
However, a suicidologist Love claims that in such a subtle topic as a person’s voluntary departure from life, wide generalizations are not good: “Each suicide attempt has its own tragic background, its own causes and its own development mechanism.”
Among the experts there is no consensus on approaches to the classification of suicides. But it is generally accepted that the method of salvation of potential suicides depends on what suicidal thoughts are caused.
Couldn't? Didn't want to? And that's it. "

There is no panacea.

Now retired.
I calmed down a little.
And he was silent.
