A policeman was sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempting to kill a convict whose apartment he transferred to himself

The Primorsky District Court of St. Petersburg sentenced Viktor Kozlov, former senior criminal investigation officer of the 86th police department in the Primorsky District, to 14 years in a maximum security colony, reports the Prosecutor General's Office.

Kozlov was deprived of the right to work in internal affairs bodies for 15 years and was also fined 100 thousand rubles.

The ex-policeman was found guilty of fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code), illegal sale of drugs (clause “b” of Part 4 of Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code), abuse of power (Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code) and organizing preparations for murder for hire in order to conceal another crime (part 3 of article 333, part 1 of article 30, paragraphs “h”, “k” of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code).

According to the case materials, from April to November 2012, he illegally obtained rights to the apartment of a St. Petersburg resident who was serving a sentence in a colony.

“Having learned about the release of the victim from prison, the attacker decided to kill him in order to hide the previously committed crime. He asked his acquaintance to kill a man for a monetary reward by injecting him intravenously with a mixture of drugs, from an “overdose” of which he was supposed to die,” the department said in a statement.

The policeman met with the alleged perpetrator of the crime at the police department, where he gave him methadone and money to purchase heroin. The perpetrator reported the preparation of the murder to the police.

Kozlov was detained after the performer reported the alleged death of a St. Petersburg resident and gave him the keys to the apartment.
