The museum, recently opened under the presidential center of Boris Yeltsin in Yekaterinburg , is not just a selection of exhibits about the First President of Russia, but a fascinating multimedia and interactive trip on the history of Russia of the 20th century with a special focus on the 1990s. Employees of the Center gathered a huge archive of historical documents with more than 30 thousand storage units. At the request of Colta.ru, the head of the Archive Yeltsin Center Dmitry Pushmin chose 11 museum exhibits with the most amazing story and spoke about them.

In the early 1990s, this door was found in the forest on the 12th kilometer of the Moscow tract. In 1937-1938 The “object” of the NKVD was located here, where death sentences were carried out and buried the executed ones. The corpses were buried in trenches, in several layers. According to official figures, more than 18,500 people are buried here. The mass burial on the 12th kilometer became known in the late 1980s. Soon people were drawn to this place - they brought flowers, photographs, home -made signs with the names of their repressed relatives. Someone brought the door from the prison camera and leaned it against the growing tree. This door was saved and took from the 12th kilometer to their museum activists of the Yekaterinburg Society Memorial. Recently, our colleagues transferred it to us for temporary storage with the right to exhibit.
