Six Russian banks are disconnected from Visa and MasterCard payment systems. According to Vedomosti, Gennbank, Krainvestbank, Verkhnevolzhsky Bank and Sevastopol Maritime Bank, as well as Inrebank and Mosoblbank, are disabled.

Gennbank, Krainvestbank, Verkhnevolzhsky and SMB are included in the “black list” of the United States due to the fact that they are actively working in Crimea, and the other two are related to the SMP Bank and its shareholders - the Rotenberg brothers who are already a year and a half. Inrebank is the "daughter" of the SMP Bank, and Mosoblbank is located at the latter on rehabilitation.

Some operations on cards of these banks have become impossible on Wednesday due to the fact that international payment systems turned off these banks. According to the sources of the publication, international payment systems sent out the relevant notifications. So the MasterCard representative indicated that due to the announcement of new US sanctions, transactions maintenance on the maps of Genbank and Verkhnevolzhsky could be carried out according to the rules of the national payment cards system.

The representative of VISA noted that "sectoral sanctions, which were reported by the US Treasury Department, do not affect transactions using VISA maps." At the same time, he ignored the issue of servicing banks that got into a blacklist.

The day before, Genbank published a letter from which it follows that, together with the Central Bank and the NSPK, he takes all possible measures in order to restore the work of plastic cards as soon as possible. Later, a clarifying message appeared on the website of Genbank: all bank cards work in Russia, and customers may encounter difficulties in performing operations abroad.

On December 22, the US Department of Finance expanded the sanctions list by including Yandex-money and a number of banks in it. In addition, the list includes a number of Crimean enterprises, including the Yalta film studio and winery companies Massandra and New World.

The sanctions list of individuals has also been expanded. It includes the ex-head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Vitaly Zakharchenko, ex-minister of education and science Dmitry Tabachnik, representative of the LPR in the contact group Vladislav Demoli, the "Minister of Foreign Affairs" of the DPR Alexander Kofman. In addition, the list included employees of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant and the Kalashnikov concern that had previously fallen under the sanctions.

“In order to maintain the effect of our measures, we need to periodically update our lists in order to protect the integrity of our sanctions. We do not consider today's actions as an escalation. This is a routine step to strengthen the implementation of existing measures,” said William Stevens Embassy in Russia.
