420 years ago, on January 6, 1596, Zinovy Bogdan Khmelnitsky, the hetman of the Zaporizhzhya troops, the commander and the creator of the first in the history of the Ukrainian state, was born. In 1648, he raised an uprising against the Commonwealth. As a result, a Ukrainian hetman was formed, which existed before the beginning of 1654, when he joined the Moscow Kingdom on the terms of wide autonomy and the preservation of the power of the hetman. It is interesting that in 1634 Khmelnitsky participated in battles against the Moscow troops near Smolensk and was even granted a golden saber for saving the life of the Polish king.
