Merkel did not rule out tightening the rules for refugees after the events in Cologne

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that she considers it possible to tighten Germany’s legislation after attacks on women in Cologne. She, as TASS reports, said on Friday at a meeting of the federal rule of the Christian Democratic Union.

According to her, relying on the "stiffness of the law", it is necessary to decide what needs to be "improved" in the laws related to the integration of refugees. She, in particular, invited politicians to discuss when a migrant can lose her right to be in Germany. “What happened was terrible. Such things should not happen,” Merkel said.

Earlier, about 90 women were appealed to law enforcement agencies with statements about sexual harassment, which on New Year's Eve occurred in the square in front of the main railway station of Cologne and nearby streets.

In the attacks that took place at different times and in different places, about a thousand people participated, mainly people of the "Arab or North African appearance" who shot into the crowd New Year's rockets and firecrackers. After the police forced them to disperse, they crashed into groups, surrounded women, threatened them, robbed and raped.

In total, 106 statements were submitted in Cologne in connection with the riots on New Year's Eve. About 75% of them are associated with sexual harassment. In the first hours of the New Year, about 90 women were robbed, intimidated, or sexual harassment from drunken men who crowded near the central station and Cologne Cathedral. Similar cases are registered in Hamburg, Berlin, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart.

Police analyzes social networks and work with videos and photographs taken at the scene. At the same time, the police of the North Rhine - Westphalia, where Cologne is located, believes that the attackers acted by prior conspiracy. “When one thousand men from North Africa gather in one place, this cannot be an accident,” law enforcement officers say.
