Doctor Ilya Zelendinov, who hit a patient in a Belgorod hospital, was taken into custody by a court decision until February 29.
Investigators insisted on the arrest of the doctor. They believe that Zelendinov may hide in Uzbekistan, where his relatives live. The defense asked to put the doctor under house arrest or to take from him a written undertaking not to leave.
Zelendinov was charged under the article on the intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm, which negligently caused the death of the victim. At the trial, he refused to plead guilty. The doctor assured that he had no malicious intent.
Initially, Zelendinov was accused under the article on causing death by negligence - then he pleaded guilty.
In court, investigators noted that, according to some reports, the accused violated public order and was seen drinking alcohol at the workplace.
