
The largest online encyclopedia Wikipedia celebrates its 15th anniversary.
This encyclopedic project on the Wiki-engine was founded by Jimmy Wayls and Larry Sanger on January 15, 2001. In December 2013, in a UNESCO statement on the occasion of the awarding of Jimmy Wayls, the founder of Wikipedia, Niels Bor’s gold medal about Wikipedia, it was said that it is a “symbol of the era of the interaction that we live in, and this is not just a tool, this is the embodiment of a dream, as ancient as human intelligence and a meeting of the Alexandrian library”.
Wikipedia is created by volunteers from around the world in 277 world languages and is one of the most visited sites in the world - only in December 2015 more than 2.5 billion people entered the portal of this encyclopedia!
The Russian-language section of Wikipedia is included in the top 5 of the largest sections of the online encyclopedia, the total number of articles at the moment is 1 million 273 thousand.
And Google included Wikipedia in his top applications for countries such as Russia, India, Mexico, Japan and Indonesia
