The dollar and euro are falling against the ruble on Thursday, January 14. Trading in the US dollar began on the ETS on Thursday with transactions in the range of 76.55–77.0 rubles/$, in the first seconds the dollar was mostly quoted closer to the 77 ruble mark, but then retreated, and on average in a minute and a half the rate was 76.67 rubles/$ (corresponding to the previous closing mark). At the same time, the euro cost 83.3 rubles/euro (-9.5 kopecks), Interfax reports. As of 11:15 Moscow time, the dollar and euro continue to fall and are trading at 76.55 rubles and 83.29 rubles, respectively.

The Bank of Russia lowered the official exchange rates for Thursday, January 14. Thus, the dollar in the Central Bank's estimates fell to 76.43 rubles, the euro - to 82.72 rubles. The bi-currency basket amounted to 79.26 rubles.

The fall in global oil prices has had only a limited effect on the ruble, experts say. Brent crude prices have come under pressure due to expectations of increased supplies from Iran after sanctions against it are lifted next week, Bloomberg reports. Iran could increase production by 3.7% within a month after sanctions are lifted, analysts say.
