Mariinka will present the premiere of the opera Verdi "Simon Bokkanigra"

On February 5 and 7, in Mariinsky-2, the premiere of the opera Giuseppe Verdi “Simon Bokkanigra” will be held on the drama of the same name by Antonio Garcia Gutierres. Valery Gergiev will be conducted both evenings with the symphonic orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater.

A joint production of 2014 Italian theaters La Fenich and Carlo Felicha will be transferred to the scene of Mariinsky-2, the Mariinka website reports . The play uses video projections created specifically for him on the basis of real landscapes of the sea coast of Genoa, where the opera’s action (artist in light and video is Pascal Marie) unfolds.

“I remained faithful to the text, trying to emphasize that, in my opinion, it is a key element - the sea. -says the director of Andrea de Rosa. “For such a person as Simon Bokkanigra, it is important to always have a visible horizon, but the pain and intrigues of the authorities cover him.”

The world premiere of the first edition of the opera Simon Bokkanigra took place in 1857 on the stage of the Lam Fenich Theater. In 1881, Verdi carried out the second edition, processing both the musical and literary basis of the opera. It is this version of the operas that perform in our time.

In the Mariinsky Theater, Simon Bokkanigra was presented only in concert performance. At the February premiere, the main parties will be performed by soloists of the opera troupe of the Mariinsky Theater, as well as the Italian bass Ferruchacio Furlanetto.
