1891 Osip Mandelstam was born

125 years ago, on January 15, 1891, Osip Emilievich Mandelstam, the great Russian poet, was born. Vladimir Nabokov described him as "the best poet who tried to survive in Russia under the Soviets." Failed to survive. Mandelstam was subjected to repressions for an anti-Stalinist poem about the "Kremlin mountaineer" and died in the camp.
