The movie academy will change the composition due to charges of racism

In Los Angeles on January 14, nominees were announced to the 88th Academy Award. It turned out that not a single black artist (as a year earlier) is not represented in all four acting nominations. The composition of the nominees caused a sharp condemnation in the American media, in social networks, where the hashtag #SoscarsSOWITE, and in the cinematic community, became popular again. The flurry of critics led to real results: the president of the Academy Cheryl Bun Isaex promised to change the composition of the organization. White Oscar. In 2015, not a single African American was nominated for the Oscar-before that this happened in 2011, and even earlier-in 1998. A year ago, in the United States, critics noted that David Oyelouo, who played the role of Martin Luther King in the film “Selma”, was not affordable for the award. However, then it seemed to many that a similar alignment was still an exception, not a pattern, and the scandal quickly came to naught. In 2016, not a single black actor was again among the nominees, and this time accusations of racism with a vengeance fell on the Academy. The same Oyelouo, the fighter for the rights of the African American, said that the second year in a row is already unforgivable.

Who was rolled in 2016. Traditionally, after the announcement of the nominees for the Oscar, the media make up the lists of those who, in their opinion, were undeservedly ignored. In 2016, several black actors were named: Idris Elba, who played the role of the second-plan in the drama of Carey Fukunagi “Bezrodny Beasts”, Samuel L. Jackson-in the “disgusting eight”, Michael B. Jordan, the leading role in the film “Creed: the Heritage of Rocky”, and Will Smith-in the picture-in the picture-in the picture "Defender." Reaction and boycott. One of the first short lines of Oscars was commented by Willa Smith's wife, actress Jada Pinette Smith. Nevertheless, there were also those whose Oscar nominees did not cause indignation. For example, director John Singleton, the first African-American, who was put forward to an Oscar as the best director, said that he was not at all upsetting short lists, because the lists are always very subjective, the premium itself is a lottery, and great films often do not receive recognition immediately after the screens. According to Singleton, people complain every year, even when there are blacks among nominees.

Result. The calls to boycott the prize forced the president of the Academy Cheryl Eisex to replace the organization - she promised that in 2016 the system of recruiting new members would be revised. The main idea is that the variety among movie academics leads to diversity among nominees - gender, racial, ethnic and on the basis of sexual orientation.

The composition of the Academy. The American Academy, which has been accused of subjectivity for decades, unites about 5.5 thousand people - representatives of various areas of the film industry. According to The Los Angeles Times, for 2012 94 percent of academicians were white, 77 percent - men, 54 percent - over 60 years old.
