Rospotrebnadzor identified a number of prohibited Turkish products in Russian retail that were imported into Russia after January 1, 2016, after anti-Turkish sanctions came into force. reports this TASS with reference to the head of the department, Anna Popova.

“We expected everyone to be so law-abiding that [the ban] would be fully respected. But they found violations in different regions of the Russian Federation,” she said.

According to Popova, in the first week of 2016, 18 tons of sanctioned Turkish products were discovered, and now this figure has exceeded 22 tons. Most often, products prohibited for import were detected in stores, and to a lesser extent - in markets.

Based on the results of control activities, Rospotrebnadzor specialists removed from sale products whose accompanying documents did not contain all the necessary information or were completely absent, and also if they were not properly labeled, said the chief sanitary doctor.

“There is no such level of art yet, to bring a product from one country, but it was labeled by another and it was impossible to see it. Therefore, of course, when a document is fake, it is visible,” Popova emphasized.

She noted that some Turkish products can now be legally present in Russian retail. The head of Rospotrebnadzor explained that not all Turkish food was banned, but a specific list of goods. She also added that the circulation of sanctioned Turkish goods that were imported into Russia before January 1, 2016 is not prohibited.

Relations between Russia and Turkey worsened after the Turkish Air Force shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber on November 24 last year on the Turkish-Syrian border. Ankara stated that the plane violated Turkey's air border and did not respond to warnings; Moscow rejected these accusations.

After this, Russia introduced a number of economic sanctions against Turkey - Russian tour operators were prohibited from selling trips to Turkey, and an embargo was introduced on the import of vegetables and fruits from this country.
