A campaign has been launched to repeal the article on repeated violations at rallies

Friends and supporters of activist Ildar Dadin, who was sentenced to three years in prison on charges of repeated violations at public events, announced the launch of the “Right not to be silent” campaign for the repeal of Article 212.1 of the Criminal Code, as well as for the release and rehabilitation of all those persecuted under it.

The campaign will include educational events and street actions, including the international action "Free world for free Dadin", scheduled for February 7th. The campaign will be covered on its website stop212prim.org . OVD-Info is the information partner of the campaign.

Article 212.1 was included in the Criminal Code in the summer of 2014. It provides for punishment of up to five years in prison for repeated violations of the procedure for holding public events. “Repeated” is the fourth violation after three administrative protocols under Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses for six months.

In 2015, criminal cases under this article were initiated against four participants in Moscow public rallies (mostly solo pickets that did not require approval): Vladimir Ionov, Mark Galperin, Ildar Dadin and Irina Kalmykova. The sentence handed down on December 7 to Ildar Dadin was the first under this article.
