The Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) suspended insurance payments to Vneshprombank depositors for one day. A source familiar with the situation at Vneshprombank told RBC about this and was confirmed by an interlocutor close to the Central Bank. The DIA later issued a press release stating that payments would continue from January 22.

VTB24, which was selected as an agent bank to pay insurance compensation on deposits in VPB, reported that payments were suspended due to the revocation of Vneshprombank's license to carry out banking operations. “By decision of the DIA, acceptance of applications and payment of insurance compensation will continue on January 22,” the bank’s statement says.

As an RBC interlocutor familiar with the situation at the bank said, at Vneshprombank there are “crusherers” (those who, just before the revocation of the license, divided large deposits into several smaller ones in order to reduce the deposit to the amount of the insured amount) and those who transferred money from accounts of legal entities to accounts of individuals in order to be covered by insurance. The regulator assumes that actions related to the withdrawal of assets were carried out by the former management of Vneshprombank and persons controlling the bank.
