Former governor of the Sakhalin region Alexander Khoroshavin has become a defendant in another case, TASS reports citing his lawyer Ivan Mironov.
“The case is related to the elections of deputies to the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Duma,” Mironov said, adding that Khoroshavin is currently a suspect in this case.
In the spring of 2015, Sakhalin Governor Alexander Khoroshavin, as well as his adviser Andrei Ikramov, were brought to Moscow and arrested . A case was initiated against the officials under Part 6 of Article 290, Part 4 of Article 290.1 of the Criminal Code (receiving a bribe on an especially large scale).
According to the investigation, the governor received a bribe in the amount of $5.6 million when concluding contracts for the construction of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinskaya CHPP-1, which was built from 2010 to 2013. The governor himself claimed during the court hearing that he had nothing to do with this contract.
In January, former senator of the Sakhalin region Zhanna Ivanova was detained in Moscow. She is suspected of organizing tax evasion (Article 199 of the Criminal Code) of an enterprise whose director was her husband.
According to investigators, from 2008 to 2010, Zhanna Ivanova, being a deputy of the Sakhalin Regional Duma and having connections in the government, helped purchase a non-residential building in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk as municipal property. As a result of Ivanova’s actions, the federal budget did not receive more than 14 million rubles. The former senator was given a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave the place.
Local media reported that after this deal, which was personally supervised by the governor of the Sakhalin region, Alexander Khoroshavin, Zhanna Ivanova received the position of senator.
