The electrician responsible for servicing the elevator in which the woman died was charged

In Moscow, investigators brought charges against an employee of the Lift Garant company, electrician Alexei Belousov, who shortly before the tragedy carried out maintenance work on the elevator where a woman died, according to a press release from the city’s investigative department.

The electrician was charged under Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code (providing work that does not meet safety requirements). According to investigators, on January 14, 2016, a 36-year-old woman died in the building of the Scarlet Sails complex on Aviatsionnaya Street “due to a technical malfunction and a broken elevator cabin.” The deceased woman was an activist at the house and part of an initiative group; she repeatedly reported problems with elevators. An employee of the Lift Garant company, electrician Alexei Belousov, who shortly before the tragedy was performing maintenance work on the elevator and its equipment, was detained the day after the tragedy.
