A plane wreck found off the coast of Thailand last Saturday is unlikely to belong to the Malaysian Boeing 777 that went missing in March 2014. Aviation experts and Thai officials are inclined to this conclusion, reports Reuters .

Earlier, a piece of an airplane wing measuring about 2 m wide and 3 m long washed up on the coast of Thailand. Thai media suggested that the wreckage belonged to a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777, which flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing (flight MH370) and disappeared from radar without a trace in March 2014.

Currents in the Indian Ocean are unlikely to have brought any debris to Thailand from the area where the plane disappeared, thousands of kilometers away, said Greg Waldron, executive editor of the British aerospace magazine Flightglobal.

“The markings, engineering and technology of the fragment clearly indicate that it is related to aerospace,” Waldron said. “It needs to be thoroughly investigated to determine its exact origin.”

He suggested that the found piece could be part of aerospace debris related to the launch of space rockets by India.

Thai authorities also have not officially confirmed that the wreckage belongs to the missing Malaysian airliner. One of the local officials noted that, judging by the shells on the wreck, it had been in the water for no more than a year.

Aviation expert Jeffrey Thomas told Reuters that the fragment found in Thailand "simply doesn't look like an airplane fuselage. “It just doesn't make sense,” he said. I don't think there is any connection with flight MH370."

Earlier, the discovery of a piece of aircraft off the southern coast of Thailand, presumably belonging to the missing plane, was announced by the head of the Thai district of Pak Phanang Tanyapat Patthikongpan.
