The weakening of the Russian currency occurs against the backdrop of the world's drop in oil prices from the middle of the day. So, Brent quotes by 14:50 Moscow time decreased by almost 3% to $ 31.8 per barrel.
At the very beginning of the session, the dollar rate fell to 76.85 rubles, and the euro came close to 83 rubles against the background of rising oil prices. Then, against the background of the fall of quotations, the main world currencies were strengthened by Russian by more than 2%.
On January 22, thanks to the rise in oil prices (per day, the barrel Brent rose by 8.4%) Ruble exchange rate increased significantly - the dollar fell to 78 rubles by the end of the exchange session. The Central Bank on January 22 and 25 reduced the US exchange rate of a total of almost six rubles.
Earlier on January 25, the former rector of the Russian Economic School, Sergei Guriev, admitted that the ruble would lose another 10-15% of its cost if oil prices remain at the current level. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullin on January 22 stated that the dependence of the economy of Russia and the ruble course on oil prices is reduced.
