Political scientist Georgy Mirsky died

On January 26, in Moscow, at the age of 89, the political scientist and historian Georgy Mirsky died.

Georgy Ilyich Mirsky was born in 1926 in Moscow, graduated from the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies (1952), candidate of historical sciences (dissertation is dedicated to the latest history of Iraq), Doctor of Historical Sciences (dissertation is dedicated to the political role of the army in developing countries).

Since 1957, he worked at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, in 1982, after arrest for dissident activities, one of his subordinates was removed from the post of head of the department of economics and policy of developing countries and remained working at the institute as a chief researcher.

George Mirsky was also a professor at MGIMO, where he lectured on the problems of developing countries, professor at the Department of World Policy of the Higher School of Economics, where he taught international relations and regional studies, professor of the Russian-British magistracy program in the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences, a member of the scientific and consultant council of the journal Russia in Global Policy The columnist of the Politkom.ru website, acted as an invited expert at the Echo of Moscow radio station.

In the 1990s, he worked at the American Institute of Peace as an invited researcher, investigated interethnic relations in the former USSR, made lectures at 23 US universities, conducted regular courses at Princeton, New York, American University at Hofstra University.

The works of George Mirsky in the field of studying the topic “Army and Politics in the third world countries” became classic. In addition, he was engaged in the research of Islamic fundamentalism, the Palestinian problem, the Arab-Israeli conflict, international terrorism, and countries of the Middle East.
