Ukraine initiated a discussion in the UN Security Council of recent statements by Vladimir Putin about the Donbass. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has emphasized that this was done on behalf of President Petro Poroshenko
"During the discussions, the representative of Ukraine Volodymyr Yelchenko stated the inadmissibility of attempts by the highest leadership of Russia to rewrite history, questioning the territorial integrity, sovereignty and political independence of Ukraine," the report said.
The Ukrainian delegation emphasized that Putin’s statements violate a number of fundamental international documents, in particular the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act of the Security and Cooperation in Europe 1975.
Also, Ukraine attracted the attention of the UN Security Council members to the fact that such statements come from the head of state, which is one of the signatures of the Budapest memorandum of the security of Ukraine. Representatives of the delegation noted that Russia violates its obligations on the memorandum, continuing the illegal occupation of Crimea and unprecedented military aggression in the Donbass.
"Ukraine considers Putin's statements as unacceptable and requires the Russian leadership to stop hostile rhetoric and aggressive actions against the Ukrainian people," the report said.
A few days earlier, Putin, speaking at the forum of the All -Russian Popular Front, spoke about the mistakes of Vladimir Lenin during the education of the Soviet Union. In particular, Putin called the transmission of Donbass to Ukraine with the "mistake of Lenin".
