Ukrainian Ministry of Health expects a second wave of deadly flu

In the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the second wave of influenza is expected in the country in early spring. More than 150 people became victims of the disease due to the late appeal to doctors and complications. The current wave was declining, officials assure. In the Odessa region, where the largest number of deaths are recorded, quarantine in schools is canceled. But the authorities warn that in the early spring the situation may be repeated.

The press service of the City Council of Odessa said that the coordination headquarters to prevent the spread of the disease of the ARVI and the influenza population decided to resume the educational process in city schools on February 1. “Thanks to the timely events, we were able to keep the situation with the influenza in Odessa under control. Over the past week of January, the incidence of acute respiratory infections and influenza in Odessa has decreased, which allows you to start the educational process from Monday,” Interfax quoted the mayor of Gennady Trukhanov.

In schools, an enhanced regime of sanitation and ventilation of the premises is introduced. Teachers will carry out additional explanatory work with parents to prevent visiting children's groups with children with signs of acute respiratory diseases.

As of the morning of January 29, in the Odessa region, according to the director of the Department of Health and Social Protection of the Odessa Companion of Tatyana Lyapchuk, 31 people died in the region of influenza and its consequences. Two -thirds of this number are residents of Odessa, but there are no children among them. Quarantine in city schools was announced on January 18.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health of Ukraine, Alexander Kvitashvili, said that he should soon expect a new wave of incidence of influenza. “In general, the seasonality of the flu is such that the first wave is by the end of the year, the very last few weeks plus the first two to three weeks of the New Year, and then the second such wave is early spring,” he explained.

The main sanitary doctor of Ukraine Svyatoslav Protas at a briefing last Friday said that about 10 people die every day from the severe consequences of influenza and SARS, as well as because of the late contacting a doctor in the country. And about 80 thousand people turn to the doctors every day about the flu. “Thanks to the information campaign, people began to contact the first day of illness more often, but, nevertheless, about 10 people per day continues to die from the serious consequences of the influenza,” Protas said.

According to the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the epidemiological season in Ukraine, 155 laboratory confirmed deaths from influenza have been registered.
