The Minister of Culture of Ukraine did not understand why, after the demolition of the monument to Petrovsky in Dnepropetrovsk, a criminal case was opened

The Dnepropetrovsk police opened a criminal case on the demolition of the monument to the Soviet revolutionary Grigory Petrovsky on the station square. We are talking about part 2 of Article 298 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal search work at the archaeological heritage object, destruction, destruction or damage to cultural heritage objects).

"More than 200 activists took part in the action. In order to prevent power confrontation and conflicts, 131 employees of the Dnipropetrovsk police guarded public order, and the police officers limited the entrances and exits from the metro to ensure the security of citizens," the regional headquarters of the National Police reported .

The department also said that the audience "went to the park named after Kalinin in order to dismantle the monument of the same name," but law enforcement officers hindered them. After a preventive conversation, citizens "abandoned the plan and dispersed," the police noted. The detainees are not reported.

The monument was tumbled down with a grinder and cables mounted on a truck. After the monument collapsed to the ground, the gathered lit a fire, and also began to sing the anthem of Ukraine and chant various slogans. Both Ukrainian flags and the flags of the nationalist organization "Right Sector" prohibited in the Russian Federation were visible over the square.

It was reported that the initiator of the demolition of the monument was People's Deputy of Ukraine Andrei Denisenko. Speaking to the audience, he said that "we need to do this today, since today is the day of memory of the battle of heroes under the Cool."

In addition, it is known that the Square was attended by Deputy Mayor of Dnepropetrovsk Mikhail Lysenko. According to the results of the action, he said that the sculpture was taken to a special warehouse where it will be stored, "until all monuments of the Soviet era are demolished."

The decision to initiate criminal proceedings was not supported by the Deputy Prime Minister on Humanitarian issues and the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Vyacheslav Kirilenko. “Not any register of monuments - neither national nor local significance - a monument to Petrovsky in the Dnieper. Why is a criminal case is unknown,” he wrote on his Twitter .

Grigory Ivanovich Petrovsky was one of the co -chairs of the CEC of the USSR and was the deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He signed an agreement on the formation of the USSR by the Ukrainian SSR.

Petrovsky passed away in January 1958, he was buried on Red Square in the center of Moscow. The monument on the station square of Dnepropetrovsk was opened in May 1976. Its height was seven meters, and weight - 12 tons.

In this regard, the names of villages, cities, squares and streets associated with the Soviet and communist past are changing throughout the country, monuments of the Soviet era are dismantled.
