On January 25, ex-Minister of Defense of the DPR Igor Girkin (Strelkov), writers Maxim Kalashnikov and Eduard Limonov, publicist Konstantin Krylov, editor-in-chief of the Sputnik and Pogrom website Yegor Prosvirnin and a number of other nationalists announced the creation of the "Council of January 25"
The members of the "Council" differently assessed both the reasons and the goals of creating the newly minted body. For example, Limonov called it the most important event for the future fate of Russia, necessary so that Russia "does not fall into Khodorkovsky's liberals." “Because now you have somewhere to run, to whom to join and under whose banner to stand in the event of a cataclysm. In addition to the authorities and pro-Western liberals, a third force has appeared, ”the writer explained.
Yegor Prosvirnin said: “We, Russians, need to understand that the alternative is simple: either repentance on Kadyrov’s Instagram, Navalny’s pleas on Twitter, and selfies from the queue for coupons for the distribution of bread in the occupation commandant’s office of the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army, or reach out to each other and start meeting, communicating, interacting.” And he called on the creative class for cooperation: managers, editors, artists “and even, scary to say, start-ups” who want to obey the “living legends of the Donbass war.”
Together, the participants declared the need to preserve the country within the borders of the Russian Federation and prevent its collapse. “And in the future - to pursue a policy of reunification of the Russian people in one state. At the same time, Russians for us are (as before 1917) a trinity of Great Russians, Little Russians-Ukrainians and Belarusians. Many Belarusians, judging by the tsunami of indignation that has risen on the Internet, are not at all warm by the idea of participating in such a trinity. Especially under the banner of Igor Strelkov, who, in his own words, started a war in which the blood of tens of thousands of its representatives had already been shed on the altar of the reunification of the Russian people.
“Any information resource can automatically become a mobilization resource. And having such a tool, the same Strelkov can quickly convey important information to a large number of people.
Another member of the Council, Russian blogger Anatoly Nesmiyan, told me: so far, the meeting participants have only agreed on information interaction. According to his calculations, the total audience of all the declared parties can be up to two million people.
“Nobody is going to overthrow Putin,” Nesmiyan explained. - Probably no one can do more in this direction than he himself. Putin's choice is to lead the country to disaster. No one plans to help or interfere with him. But any information resource can automatically become a mobilization one. And having such a tool, the same Strelkov can quickly convey important information to a large number of people.”
To put it simply, having seen that the opposition is actively fantasizing about “life after Putin”, citizens prone to nationalist ideas decided to hasten to close up a platform for manipulating public consciousness with a further eye on the formation of a ready-made governing body in the post-Putin space. The idea seems absurd, but in a critical situation, those who can quickly and clearly organize a single structure under loud and attractive slogans may well seize power. It doesn't even take millions. A much smaller number of supporters may suffice. And then the "living legends of Donbass" will lead the Russians who did not have time to figure out what's what to another bright future. True, it is doubtful that managers, editors, artists “and even, scary to say, startups” will like it.
