Over two decades-the 90s and zero-Bristol group Massive Attack released only five full-fledged albums. Two of them- “Blue Lines” and “Protection” -were revolutionary for their time, of which a separate direction of electronic music-trip-hop, which again becomes relevant, increased. “Mezzanine” for many has become an album-symbol of the decade, although its main play “Teardrop” is now associated with the 2000s and the series “Doctor House”. The “100th Window” and “Heligoland” in the Hamburg account, released in the zero, seem to be passable, although these are very strong records with good songs and sound, which cannot be faked. After Heligoland , published in 2010, Massive Attack promised to stop releasing albums and keeping their promise so far.
The new music of the Bristolites, who had previously found a futuristic sound on ancient records, first appeared in the format of a strange iPhone application of Fantom , which was described as Sensory Remixer -i.e. "Sensitive remicher." When installing, Fantom requests a permit for access to his data - geographical position, video camera, time of day and even pulse (the last option, however, is available only to Apple Watch owners). Based on this geo and biometrics, the application reinstalls fragments from the new Massive Attack songs (which can already be bought on iTunes ), somehow consistent with where you are what you see and how you move. The resulting soundtrack for your life can be immediately combined with a picture from the camera of your iPhone , processed by a spectacular noir filter, and put in all kinds of accounts in social networks. It turns out a unique digital imprint of your momentary state, and at the same time the sketch of the upcoming technological utopia, in which smart socio-recommended systems help a person to eat, live, work and multiply, recommending better music, restaurants, hotels, routes, financial strategies, sexual partners, etc.
Fantom shows how people turn into applications to their accounts on social networks, to the ghosts of Facebooks and Instagrams.
One important point: this unique imprint is made in negative. Fantom does not have any enthusiasm for being in this digital utopia. Like the new Massive Attack songs, in which the thought nervously pulsates that “everything is wrong, guys,” the black and white Fantom , decorated with X-ray pictures, rather dares a person from the habit of telling the world where he is now, what he sees and hears. The UM om fantom is pretending to be useful from App 'Ow, showing how people turn into applications to their accounts on social networks, into the ghosts of Facebooks and Instagrams.
Massive Attack previously used huge arrays of data that endlessly pouring into the Internet, as an honest mirror exhibited before the world. One of the main elements of the Massive Attack concert show was a giant liquid crystal screen, which, in particular, displaced headlines of local newspapers, grabbed with the help of search engines. The running line, who informed the audience about the tragedies, every minute occurring in the world, gave the minor songs of the group the depth of documentary investigation. Massive Attack during concerts gave a rebuke to imperial ambitions of countries, transnational corporations and international media. In the starting concert tour, to which the appearance of Ritual Spirit is timed to, apparently, will also get global Internet companies and IT gospelists who are dying themselves with new Steve Jobs.
The chronically gloomy attitude of the leaders of the Massive Attack can be attributed to the attacks of paranoia or on Robert Del Naja - they say, everything is used to seeing everything in black. But one cannot even disagree with their view of things - after all, since the growing of the Internet into the life of a person in it, nothing has changed in it: wars are going, diseases are rampant, poverty spreads. In any heart, like in any city, there is a dark noot, where it is better not to look. The world did not become brighter, brighter and more rainbow - judging it not only by the tape of Instagram.
