Moscow authorities may ban Uber

Moscow authorities may ban Uber if the company does not sign a cooperation agreement with the city’s transport department in the near future. This was stated by the head of the department, Maxim Liksutov, in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.

Moscow authorities require Uber to comply with two conditions: “work only with legal taxi drivers” who have permission to operate taxis, and “transmit data on the movement of their cars around the city.”

“We have been cooperating with the Moscow Department of Transport for a very long time, including on these two issues - working only with taxi drivers who have permission, and transferring data on vehicle movements,” an Uber representative in Russia told Vedomosti.

According to him, Uber did not refuse the agreement with the Moscow authorities, and the long terms for its signing are associated only with “long terms for its approval” due to the scale of the company and the fact that Moscow is one of the key European cities for the company. “But there is no question of any refusal [of cooperation],” he assured.

An Uber representative was unable to comment on Liksutov’s words that representatives of the service asked for another 10 days for approval. “But I can say that we have come to an option that suits both parties, and now we will work on finalizing the process,” he said.
