Governor of the Tver region Andrei Shevelev will leave his post in the near future. RBC writes about this with reference to people close to the Kremlin and a source in the State Duma.
According to the publication, the decision on Shevelev’s resignation will be made within a month, that is, before the elections, before which the region needs a stronger leader. A replacement for Shevelev will be sought among Tver officials and politicians, or among representatives of the region at the federal level.
The governor's spokeswoman called the reports rumors and declined to comment. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov also declined to comment.
Shevelev remains a stranger to a significant part of the regional elite, says political scientist Konstantin Kalachev. Before the New Year, there was a communal disaster in the region: many houses were left without heating, and no one from the authorities came to the frozen people, he reminds.
