Google unmanned cars will experience in a rainy city

The Google Self-Driving CAR project has begun testing the technology of unmanned vehicles on public roads Kirkland in Washington, reports The Seattle Times .

According to Jennifer Harun, the manager of the Google Self-Driving Car project, Kircland is interesting for the project due to its rainy weather. The company's unmanned cars had previously encountered rain, but the Kirkland’s climate is much more rainy compared to the Mountain-Vew or Austin climate, N+1 reports.

At the moment, only one unmanned Lexus RX450H car is moving along Kirkland's roads. The project representative noted that Google has not yet announced its intention to expand the car fleet in Kirkland. It is also not known whether the unmanned electric vehicles of their own development of Google will arrive in Kirkland, at the moment, Google-mobiles move along the public roads of the cities of Mountin-Vyu (California) and Austin (Texas).

In Washington, there are currently no laws on autonomous vehicles, however, Governor of the state Jay Inly and the mayor of Kirkland welcome Google experiments, notes The Seattle Times.

At the moment, 55 Hoogle Self-Driving Car projects are moving on public roads. Of these, 22 cars are converted serial Lexus RX450H, and the remaining 33 are unmanned electric vehicles of the Google development.

During the existence of the project, about 2.3 million kilometers traveled in self -government mode. At the same time, only a few minor road incidents with their participation were recorded, in which, according to Google, people were to blame, not cars.

In his auto experiments, Google is trying to train cars safely to react to a variety of, including difficult situations for the car. Jennifer Harun shared her favorite case: once in a residential area in a Mountain-Vue unmanned car, he turned around a corner and found that a duck was crossing the road, behind which a woman was traveling in an electric wheelchair and driving a bird with a broom. The "smart" car stopped and missed an unusual procession.
