On the eve of the festival around the Golden Mask, a scandal broke out
The Golden Mask was established in 1993 by the Union of Theater Workers of Russia as a professional prize for the best works of the season in all types of theatrical art (drama, opera, ballet, modern dance, operetta, musical, doll theater). Prize winners are determined at the annual festival of nominant performances. The review is held by the Union of Theater Workers of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Moscow Government, the Directorate of the Golden Mask festival.
Recall, last fall around the festival and the Golden Mask award, a scandal turned. Theater director Konstantin Bogomolov and the artistic director of Gogol-Center Kirill Serebrennikov refused to participate in the festival.
Bogomolov explained that he made such a decision when he saw the composition of the working group formed by the STD and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation to develop proposals on the prospects for the development of the award and the festival. Serebrennikov explained that, with all his respect for the general director of the Prize and the Festival of Maria Revyakina, he does not want “for hygiene reasons” so that his performances are evaluated by the people who wrote on him the theater in which he serves, “many vile denunciations and Pasquili”.
After the statements of Bogomolov and Serebrennikov, the chairman of the STD of the Russian Federation, Alexander Kalyagin, addressed them with an open letter , in which he called for "humble pride."
Russian theatrical critics sent a letter to Kalyagin demanding to dissolve the expert council of the festival and the Golden Mask prize, after which they created their own association of theatrical critics (ATK).
