Three boys arrested in Seattle, shooting two people in a camp for homeless

The US police detained three minor young men who are suspected of shooting and double murder. The victims of the criminals were the inhabitants of the tent camp for the homeless.

The suspects, who turned 13, 16 and 17, were arrested on Monday. All of them are brothers, reports ABC News .

According to the investigation, the detainees lived with his mother in a tent camp, which is located one and a half kilometers from the center of Seattle and received the name "Jungle". A whole community of homeless people was formed there.

On January 26, a quarrel occurred between the brothers and other homeless people on the basis of financial disagreements. As the detainees themselves later told, one of the tramps owed their mother $ 500 for the purchased drugs. Having decided at all costs to repay the debt, the boys shot five tramps. Two of the victims (45-year-old Jennin Sopat and 33-year-old James Trans) died of injuries. The other two people are in the hospital in serious condition.

According to the witness, one of the suspects told him that he had taken heroin and money from the scene of the crime.

According to the police, at least two of the brothers shot at the victims. As part of the investigation, one gun was found, which became the instrument of reprisals.

The murder in the "jungle" caused a wide public outcry in Seattle, and the authorities decided to allocate additional funds to help homeless people, which are becoming more and more.

Currently, in Seattle and its environs, where 2.1 million people live, there are more than 4,500 homeless people who sleep in tents or in cars. Moreover, over the past year, the number of tramps has increased by 19%. Seattle is one of the three American cities, where this problem is felt especially acute.

According to the mayor of Seattle Ed Murray, the American authorities did not encounter such an increase in the number of homeless people since the Great Depression (the global economic crisis that erupted in 1929).

Last year, City Hall of Seattle organized three tent towns to accommodate homeless people. And in the coming weeks, two more parking lots for 50 cars will be added to them, where homeless carriers can receive shelter. These parking lots will be carried out by water supply and sewage, equip them with garbage collectors and other infrastructure objects.

Meanwhile, the place of the unauthorized settlement of the homeless, called the "jungle", since 2000 is a criminal zone. The inhabitants of the camp often make robbery of private houses and apartments in the neighboring quarter of Bikon Hill. Citizens are also accused of the residents of the "jungle" of throwing out garbage and sewage right on the streets, TASS reports.

The mayor of Seattle Ed Murray admitted that the tent camp "got out of control and became uncontrollable." To solve the problem in the city three months ago, a state of emergency was introduced.
