Last October, Trudeau promised that Canada would end in a military operation against the Islamic State terrorist group. During the election campaign, Trudeau repeatedly stated that in the event of the victory of the liberals in the elections, he would withdraw the military contingent of Canada from the Middle East, which is involved in the bombing of the IS militants in Syria and Iraq.

The Canadian mission to combat the IG in the coalition began in October 2014. At the end of March last year, the Canadian parliament voted to extend the country's participation in the international operation to combat IS, as well as for the support of the Allies in Syria. Thus, the Canadian mission in Iraq, which was originally designed for six months, was extended up to 12 months and should end in March 2016.

Canada allocated six F-18 fighters for the needs of the coalition, two CP-140 Aurora reconnaissance aircraft and one Airbus-150 Polaris refueling aircraft. In addition, 600 military personnel arrived to ensure the air mission to the Middle East. The Canadian contingent is stationed at the Kuwait air base.
