Samsung does not plan to add 3D function support to new TVs, while LG significantly reduces the number of new models with this function. The vendors realized that the stereo -assembly was not in demand on the market and focus on 4K resolution, CNews reports.
“We delivered Samsung stereochiks until the end of 2015 on the placed orders. But since the beginning of 2016 there has not yet been a single delivery of a new order,” Samsung’s partner told the Korean publication.
Steers are an integral element for achieving a 3D effect in Samsung TVs, as the manufacturer uses the active technology for the formation of stereo-reinforcement.
The representative of LG told ET News that in 2016 there will be 3D support in only one of the five new brand TV models. Whereas last year this function was present in 40% of the models.
The relevant decisions were made due to low demand for 3D function in TVs, as well as due to the appearance of the technology replacing it-Ultra HD. Increased resolution creates the impression of the depth of the image, the industry participants explained. In addition, an important role was played by the absence of a sufficient amount of 3D content.
Experts from the analytical company IHS predicted the commercial failure of 3D technologies back in 2013. In their opinion, it was inevitable for three reasons: lack of content, high cost and low quality of implementation, plus including the need to get used to points. Although, when 3D technology only gained momentum, IHS analysts were quite confident in its prospects. In 2011, they made a forecast that in 2015, the volume of supply of 3D supports on the world market will reach 159.2 million devices compared to 4.2 million in 2010.
