The art critic Andrei Tolstoy died

On the night of February 11, at the age of 59, art critic, director of the Research Institute of Theory and Fine Arts, Andrei Tolstoy, was killed.

Andrei Vladimirovich Tolstoy was born in 1956 in Moscow, in 1979 he graduated from the art history department of the History Faculty of Moscow State University.

Doctor of Art History (2002), professor of the Moscow Architectural Institute (2003), professor of the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikova (2009).

In addition, Andrei Tolstoy taught at the Institute of European Cultures of the Russian State University, was the director of the Research Institute of Theories and History of Fine Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts, until 2013-Deputy Director for Scientific Activities of the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin.

The main field of the scientific interests of Andrei Tolstoy was the Russian painting of the 20th century, the fine art of Russian emigration, the connection of Russian and foreign art in the 20th century.

The author of many articles, including Andrei Lanskaya, Nikolai Isaev, George Lapshin, Alexander Altman, as well as the monographs of Russian emigration artists (2005).
