The historian Marianna Trofimova died

On February 12, at the age of 90, a historian, coptologist, researcher of Gnosticism Marianna Trofimov died.

Marianna Kazimirovna Trofimova was born in 1926 in Yalta, in 1949 she graduated from the Faculty of History of Moscow State University in the Department of History of the Ancient World, from 1957 to 2006 she worked at the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences (the Institute of Universal History of the Russian Academy of Sciences), candidate (1964), doctor (1999) of historical sciences.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, he taught Coptic language at the Faculty of Philology of the Holy Tikhonovsky Theological Institute, at Moscow State University at the Faculty of Philosophy and at the Institute of World Culture, for many years she was a member of the editorial board and editorial council of the magazine "Bulletin of Ancient History".

The scope of the scientific interests of Marianne Trofimova included the history of Hellenism, issues of slavery and Christianity, Gnosticism, Christian apocryphics and Coptic manuscripts from Nag-Hammadi.

The author of 70 works on ancient history, early Christianity and Gnosticism. The greatest fame was her labors dedicated to the Coptic Gnostic texts. The main work is “Historical and Philosophical issues of Gnosticism” (1979).
